Benavente, May 31, 2018
The compound feed production plant located in the Zamora city of Benavente is celebrating its half-century of history these days. It does so with a renewed image and new prospects for expansion and growth, after being acquired in 2015 by Royal De Heus.
This multi-species production center produces 100,000 tons of feed per year mainly destined for ruminants and poultry.
However, in order to maximize its performance, an investment plan has been launched with an amount exceeding 2 million euros, which will improve processes and increase the plant’s production capacity.
“De Heus is firmly committed to the compound feed market, essential for supplying the population with animal-origin foods sustainably and with the highest safety guarantees. Our goal is to increase our influence and market share in the area, which is why we have developed an ambitious 3-year investment plan that will increase the factory’s production capacity by 50 percent, focusing mainly on ruminants,” says José Manuel García, General Director of De Heus in Spain.
Regarding its contribution to the immediate environment, Francisco Javier Pérez, area director of De Heus, highlights that “since its origins, the Benavente plant has been an important driver of the local economy, contributing to the generation of wealth in the area through the direct jobs it provides -35 currently- and, above all, the indirect ones linked to transportation, raw material storage, and distribution.”
The factory manager, Javier Álvarez, highlights the constant evolution that the production center has experienced in recent years, especially following its acquisition by De Heus.
“The implementation of the De Heus brand in Spain has brought about significant changes, such as updating the factory’s image, adapting the portfolio, optimizing the number of references, or reducing the use of antibiotics.
However, the most important transformation was adopting a new business vision where the customer and their needs are the indisputable center,” explains Álvarez.
The company wants to especially highlight the contribution made over these 50 years by the workers, for whom, along with the rest of the De Heus Animal Nutrition staff, a special training and development plan has been designed and implemented.
