SYVA annually organizes the “Sheep Dialogues, one of the most important events for industry professionals.

This year’s edition of “Sheep Dialogues” focused on parasite control, a problem that complicates the animal health management of sheep and has forced veterinarians to review their working methodology.

The event began with a speech by César Carnicer, General Director of SYVA, followed by Javier Giráldez, director of the Mountain Livestock Institute (CSIC. University of León), who delivered the inaugural lecture titled “Current Challenges in Ruminant Meat Production”.

The round table titled “New Scenarios in the Epidemiology and Control of Sheep Parasitic Diseases” was moderated by Santiago de Santa Pau and divided into three parts:

  • “Ticks, Climate Change, and the Expansion of Pathogenic Agents”, presented by Agustín Estrada, professor of the Department of Parasitology at the Veterinary Faculty of Zaragoza.
  • “Sheep Oestrosis: On Its Epidemiology and Control”, by David Reina, professor of the Department of Parasitology at the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Extremadura.
  • “Future Perspectives on the Control of Endoparasites in Sheep”, presented by Carlos Calvete, researcher in Animal Production and Health at CITA (Aragón).

The day concluded with a presentation by Jesús Vicente Díaz, who emphasized the importance of the Microbiota and immunity development in small ruminants.
