Elanco completes acquisition of AHV, strengthening its commitment to the growing global dairy industry

Elanco Animal Health announced that it has completed the acquisition of AHV International, a Dutch company innovative in the field of farm animal health.

This acquisition strengthens Elanco’s presence in the growing global dairy market, offering dairy producers an expanded portfolio of products that support the health and welfare of transition cows and enhance their productivity.

AHV’s product portfolio significantly expands our solutions for sustainability, animal welfare, and the health of transition cows, as well as for over-the-counter nutritional products. Together with our dedicated scientific and technical team at Elanco, the integration will unite the strengths of both organizations to offer an expanded portfolio of solutions to our customers”, said Dr. Ramiro M. While consumer demand for milk and dairy products continues to increase globally, dairy producers worldwide face significant challenges.

The increase in accessibility and affordability of dairy products depends on the health and productivity of cows.

The World Organisation for Animal Health reports that 20% of livestock productivity is lost annually due to mortality and diseases, impacting global food security and the profitability of producers.

This acquisition allows Elanco to offer more proactive nutritional interventions that can be tailored to the individual health of each cow to meet their health and disease prevention needs when they are most vulnerable. For example:

• StopLac is designed to reduce milk production in dairy cows during the drying off process at the end of the lactation cycle.
• Additionally, AHV’s Quorum Sensing Inhibition technology based on plant-derived extracts, disrupts biofilm formation, exposing pathogens to the animal’s natural immune system. By helping the animal’s own immune system to better fight diseases, the need for antibiotics is reduced.
