Central Lechera Asturiana and Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Spain joined forces again to stage the 4th Milk Quality Conference. A new edition of an event
that brought together fifty veterinarians specializing in milk quality on March 25 in Soto del Barco. Veterinarians who carry out their professional work in the Principality of Asturias and who are at the service of Central Lechera Asturiana.
A program aimed at updating knowledge
Aligned with Boehringer Ingelheim’s commitment to the training of professionals, this initiative focused on updating knowledge on current issues that are of interest to the veterinary community.
To inaugurate the conference, the first two talks were about emerging diseases. First, Enric Vidal (IRTA-CRESA) addressed what happened in Catalonia with the outbreak of contagious nodular dermatitis. A topic also covered by Víctor Manuel Álvarez (official veterinary officer of the Ministry of Rural Environment and Agrarian Policy of the Principality of Asturias) in his intervention, but from a regulatory perspective.
In the afternoon session, Mónica García (Centro Veterinario Meira) explained how milk quality protocols are applied in conventional farms, using small farms in Galicia, very similar to those in Asturias, as a reference. Following this presentation, it was the turn of Julio Benavides (CSIC León), who spoke about udder immunology and the role of pathogens in mastitis, highlighting the importance of vaccination.
The conference concluded with Ana Rodríguez (LILA Asturias) who focused her speech on water and its importance in milk production.
A key date in the calendar
With five editions already held, the Milk Quality Conference is established as a key date for professionals in the sector in the Principality of Asturias. A training event highly appreciated by professionals as it is linked to current events and features a panel of top-level experts.
