Boehringer Ingelheim boosts its late-stage pipeline with two key launches and increases sales by 7.3% in a successful 2025

Boehringer Ingelheim successfully fulfilled the key launches planned in its Human Health area during 2025, introducing two drugs with breakthrough therapy designation by the FDA for lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis in the second half of the year. The group’s sales increased by 7.3%* to 27.8 billion euros in the past fiscal year, driven by both the Human Health and Animal Health businesses. Investment in research and development (R&D) increased in 2025 to 6.4 billion euros, representing 22.9% of the group’s net sales. The company reached 70 million patients in 2025, providing its innovative medicines to more patients than ever before.

Human Health: JARDIANCE® (empagliflozin) and OFEV® (nintedanib) maintain their growth; launch of HERNEXEOS®* and JASCAYD®*

Human Health sales increased by 7.4%* to 22.7 billion euros, supported by the strong growth of its main brands. JARDIANCE®, indicated for the treatment of chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, and heart failure, grew by 8.7%* reaching 8.8 billion euros. OFEV®, indicated for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and other progressive fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (PF-ILD), increased by 5.4%* to 3.8 billion euros.

Boehringer Ingelheim expanded its pipeline with the launch of two innovative therapies in 2025: HERNEXEOS®, an oral treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with HER2 mutation, launched in the U.S. in August 2025. Additionally, the company launched JASCAYD®, approved in the United States and China for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in October 2025 and for progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF) in December 2025. JASCAYD®* represents the first innovative therapy for IPF to reach the market in over a decade.

Investment in R&D in Human Health reached 5.8 billion euros, representing 27.4% of the unit’s net sales. The company continued advancing its pipeline in the areas of cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic diseases (CRM), oncology, respiratory and immunology, mental health, and retinal health. Currently, the pipeline includes more than 80 projects, representing over 50 new molecular entities (NMEs). The ongoing advancements in Boehringer Ingelheim’s growing mid- and late-stage pipeline are laying the groundwork for potential future launches, positioning the company to deliver a transformative impact for patients in the coming years.

Animal Health: preventing the spread of transboundary diseases

In 2025, the Animal Health area demonstrated resilience and impact, with a 6.5%* increase in sales to 4.9 billion euros. Growth was driven by the antiparasitic and therapeutic segments for companion animals, poultry, and ruminants. NEXGARD® grew by 8.5%* to 1.4 billion euros, consolidating its position as the leading antiparasitic brand in the industry.

The company worked closely with farmers, veterinarians, and governments to combat diseases such as avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease, and bluetongue virus. Boehringer received Marketing Authorization under Exceptional Circumstances from the EU for two avian vaccines. In addition to the avian influenza vaccine H5 VAXXINACT®, VAXXITEK® HVT+IBD+H5 is a new trivalent vaccine that protects chickens and turkeys against Marek’s disease, Gumboro disease (IBD), and avian influenza H5.

Future Outlook

In 2026, Boehringer Ingelheim expects to leverage the momentum of recent years with continued progress in the Animal Health and Human Health pipelines, reaching critical inflection points, especially in CRM, oncology, and retinal health.
