Boehringer Ingelheim has awarded 20,000 euros in the Ruminant Animal Welfare Awards, which are granted annually by the World Association for Buiatrics (WAB) as part of its World Congress.
The awardees stand out for their contribution to improving the welfare of ruminants and have been Prof. Hans Coetzee (Merit Award) and Dr. Joshua Aleri (Research Award), who have each received 10,000 euros.
Prof. Hans Coetzee, head of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine (USA), has received the Merit Award, which seeks to recognize the contributions of practicing veterinarians or experienced researchers in veterinary sciences or related fields.
On the other hand, the Research Award, which is aimed at individuals who have recently obtained their doctorate and have significantly increased existing knowledge about ruminants, has been awarded to Dr. Joshua Aleri, an academic in Bovine Health and Medicine at the Murdoch University College of Veterinary Medicine (Australia).
The objective of Boehringer Ingelheim and the World Association for Buiatrics with the granting of these awards is to raise awareness in society about the importance of the work veterinarians do to improve the lives of farm animals.
In this regard, Dr. Laurent Goby, Senior Director of International Marketing in the Cattle area of the Animal Health business unit at Boehringer Ingelheim, states that “with its support for the Ruminant Animal Welfare Awards, Boehringer Ingelheim confirms its long-term commitment to the cattle industry. We are proud to foster and reward innovation in this field; these awards recognize the exceptional contribution to scientific knowledge about ruminant welfare.”
